A Church with a Heart for our Community

December 19th Thursday

Greetings to you in the name of “God-with-us”…Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour!  It looks like another wonderful morning in the Kingdom – a little snow on the ground that squeaks when you walk over it, a little ‘chill’ in the air, and the roads are clear! It is going to be our responsibility to “rejoice and be glad in it!” Can you do it? Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to let you experience His wrap-around presence – loving you, protecting you, encouraging you and renewing your spirit and may those that you are praying for see their lives affected in meaningful ways.

Yesterday I was directed to read about the Incarnation from a different perspective. I am truly into the gentleness and magic of the Christmas story that is part of our traditions but in reading Revelation chapter 12, I was reminded that Jesus didn’t just ‘slip silently’ into a world that was, for the most part, unaware. In fact, He decisively launched an invasion of the enemy’s kingdom…and the enemy was very much aware of what was taking place – and he did not like it! God was making a bold move!

Then, later in the day, one of church family shared a Christmas devotional book with me called, ‘The Greatest Gift’ by Anne Voskamp. It is a book of daily readings and questions to reflect on. When I turned to the day’s chapter, I came across a quote…you know how I like quotes…that said: Enemy-occupied territory–that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed…and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage,   C. S. Lewis

Most people know that I really enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies and I suppose in many ways it is because: they always have an ‘enemy’ of some sort that tries to undermine the good plans that are unfolding ; there is always a moment when there is a decisive moment when the ‘enemy’ is faced ; there is always a happy ending that leaves you wondering what else is going to happen.

In some ways that is the story of God’s plan for our lives: there is an enemy who is always trying to interfere and destroy ; there are always decisive moments when the enemy is dealt with ; there are always happy moments ; however, we have read the story right through to the end and we know what is to happen.

Therefore, Christmas 2019 is a reminder to us that the invasion has begun and is ongoing…and it is a good thing to celebrate! Something to ponder…be blessed!
