A Church with a Heart for our Community

August 31st Thursday

Greetings to you in the name of the “Alpha and Omega” of our faith, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a day this is going to be – a transition day – as we say ‘good-bye’ to August 2017. For so many of our friends, August has had many challenges, disappointments, wounds, and doubts mixed into the journey…but there is a new month just a few hours away and I believe that there are ‘good things’ and ‘good experiences and ‘good happenings’ coming our way. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release you from all the stuff of August and prepare a readiness for September.

For the past month my daily devotional has been focused on the book of Habakkuk and I have learned many things about a man who had so much confusion as to what God was doing in his life, his nation, and his world. There are three verses that I am pondering this morning. First, the verse that describes Hab’s confusion: GOD, how long do I have to cry out for help before you listen? How many times do I have to yell, “Help! Murder! Police!” before you come to the rescue? … Habakkuk 1:2. We have been there, haven’t we, asking God, “why haven’t you answered, where are you, I thought you loved me?”

The second verse is when Hab sees God’s presence in his situation: God’s on his way again…skies are blazing…His praises sounding…His cloud brightness exploding…lightning shooting from his hand…what power in that fist! … Habakkuk 3:3,4. We have experienced those moments too, maybe not quite as dramatic, but when God starts to move and manifest his power…wow!

The third verse is when Hab begins to comprehend that God is always in control: The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to do on the heights. … Habakkuk 3:19. Again, we relate to the stability and security and confidence we experience when we believe and act upon our belief in God’s sovereignty. Faith is so much more than simply believing – it is acting upon, moving forward, living out!

I am grateful to God for placing the book of Habakkuk in the Bible and showing me how the journey from confusion to confidence happens in the life of a man.

Be blessed!
