Greetings in the name of “El Olam” (The Everlasting God) and Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! On ‘non-de script’ mornings like this, it is good to know that above the grey skies – the sun is shining in a blue sky! In similar fashion it is good to know that beyond the turmoil and distress and greyness of our world there is a God who is in control and has a plan to reveal His beauty and majesty. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to speak words of hope into your heart.
This past Monday, the devotional planner had this for the day’s scriptural focus: She (Hagar) gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me (El-Roi),” for she said, “I have seen the One who sees me.” Genesis 16:13. I was intrigued enough to look for other verses that talked of God seeing us and found numerous places where it talked of the “eyes of the Lord.” Then I was reminded of that moment in history where God asked Adam: “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9. and of course we know that Adam was hiding because he had disobeyed God.
So, on one hand we have a God who doesn’t see a man because of his sin of disobedience, while on the other hand sees a woman who has been sinned against, a broken-hearted woman. When I looked at the verses related to the ‘eyes of the Lord’, the idea was that He (God) was looking for the the righteous-the good-those in need, those who were looking for Him. Now I am not sure what the lesson should be…maybe it is: stop playing “hide and seek” with God, that even if we have sinned, don’t hide from Him for that is counter-productive. If we want to see Him, we must let Him see us. For me, the most powerful words of personal testimony that are spoken are: “I have seen the Lord!”
Be blessed!
