A Church with a Heart for our Community

May 21st Thursday

Happy Ascension Day! Greetings in the name of the beautiful, wonderful, and powerful Saviour – Jesus Christ, THE Risen One! Another beautiful morning and we give thanks to the Lord as we sing our songs of thankfulness  and our hope is being stirred deep inside of us. Perhaps this is one of those days when you say to yourself…”I don’t know why, but I think something good is going to happen to me today.” Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to respond to the desire in your heart and release something good for you…something that will give you an extra reason to testify to His goodness.

I have been imagining in my mind the scene on the hillside outside of Jerusalem as the apostles and followers watched Jesus leave earth. Little did they know that 2000 or so years later that people would be remembering that event. Over the last few days I have been pondering the story as it is related in three of the Gospels and the book of Acts. There are many facets to look at and lessons to learn, but one caught my attention this morning.

In Mark’s telling of the Great Commission, which is integral to the Ascension, we are told…(Jesus speakingAnd these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of my name. They will speak in tongues. They will supernaturally protected from snakes and from drinking anything poisonous. And they will lay hands on the sick and heal them. Mark 16:17-18 TPT. Lay hands on the sick and heal them” – and in another reference we are told that “impartation by the laying on of hands” is a foundational ministry of the church…see Hebrews 6:1-3.

So this morning as I prayed over our church family and friends we connect with, I used my imagination and laid my hands on each one who I sensed needed healing…physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually…to impart the healing touch of Jesus. It is my belief that as we pray for each other, especially in specific ways, wherever possible we need to “lay hands” as we pray…and if it isn’t possible to do that in person…use your God-given imagination.

Maybe…just maybe, since this is Ascension Day – we could pray for someone we know need’s a specific ‘healing touch’ from Jesus and ‘lay our hands’ on that person and impart healing. Now, you probably know this, but after you do this – you need to ask God to “refill” you with His presence and power. Who knows…your prayer may be the “something good” that is going to happen to someone today.

Something to think about — have a blessed day!
