A Church with a Heart for our Community

April 8th Wednesday

Greetings to you in the matchless name of our wonderful, beautiful, and powerful Saviour – Jesus Christ ! Another lovely day in the Kingdom – Day 99 of 2020 … after a very a stormy interlude last night. The problem with rain is that the grass is going to grow faster and will need cutting but we are supposed to stay inside…well, that is what we were told! I read a comment from a ‘stay-at-home person’ who was finding that she never felt less alone than when she was alone…there always seemed to be a “presence” around her. I will be praying for you, asking Father to release positive insights and inner strength and spiritual awareness to you in amazing ways.

This morning I had an idea that I wanted to ‘test-drive’ an Irish proverb – Sometimes what you need is a good laugh and a long sleep! I went in the bathroom – looked in the mirror – had a good laugh – and went back to bed … but I couldn’t get back to sleep, so I got up! I guess the proverb isn’t universally applicable. After going through my morning rituals, I headed for my ‘morning retreat’ location to do devotions and prayers…and this is where i gets interesting.

The first two sentences of one of my readings went like this…“Sons and daughters of the living God, servants of the cross, seekers of my heart — arise! Warriors of love, poets of praise, teachers of my truth — arise!”  – I Hear His Whisper, Brian Simmons and Gretchen Rodriguez . And why…because I have been granted access to God’s presence, because I have been called to active duty and not a part-time assignment. Perhaps the proverb was ‘half-right’ because I had a good laugh and allowed a peculiar strength to seep into my being.

Just to make sure that a good laugh was worthy of another one, God somehow orchestrated that on my daily calendar were these words: God has not designed us to live like hermits in a cave. He has designed us to live in friendship and fellowship and community with others…That’s why the church, the body of Christ, is so very important, for it is there that we are drawn together in love and mutual encouragement…We’re meant to be part of one another’s lives. – Charles R. Swindoll. Only people who know me will know why that brought a laugh.

Right now, in our present circumstances…we are called to “Arise!” and be the people we have been equipped to be. We are challenged to be an active “part of one another’s lives” and that takes a little extra effort – but we can do it!

Something to ponder — be a blessing and be blessed in the process!
