A Church with a Heart for our Community

June 7th Thursday

Greetings to you in the name of the ‘Prince of Peace’, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Although it may be a little cloudy and cooler as far as the weather goes – this is still the day that the Lord has made and ‘goodness and mercy’ are following hard after us. I trust that you will be voting today…we have been praying about the election for 40 days now, so it should be interesting. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to surround you with an indescribable hope and a peace that is beyond explanation.

Last night was our Bible study and we are doing a video study  entitled – Life Changing Prayer. The particular topic last night was – Perfect Peace From God – and it focused on ‘worry’. It was a helpful and practical and challenging session. There were a few particular thoughts that captured our attention. One was about presenting our petitions or supplications to God. The word ‘supplicate’ actually means to tell God everything that is on your heart as if He doesn’t know anything about it. All too often we dismiss that approach saying – why tell Him all that detail because He already knows. However we were reminded of the verse that says – You have not from God because you ask not – it is important to tell God what is bothering you or on your heart regardless of His knowledge.

The other point was the importance of seeking God’s peace in a situation – we, all too often, tray to find other solutions to our ‘worries’ and many times the other solutions only create further problems. However we were reminded that you cannot ‘OD’ – overdose on God’s peace. One other point was made that caught  a couple of people was that ‘worry’ is a sin – the same God who told us through the Ten Commandments – you shall not: murder or steal or lie or commit adultery or covet, also said “do not worry!”

It was a good study and gave us a lot to think about. Let me give you our memory verse: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard you hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6,7.

Have a blessed day – no worry, only peace!
