Greetings to you, on this fine Autumn morning, in the name of the One who is the Way – the Truth – the Life – who brings us to Father God, Jesus Christ — THE Risen Saviour! What a lovely start to the weekend…sunshine, bright blue skies, and a gentle coolness in the air – a beautiful October day. I trust that you have had a good week and have been aware of God’s presence touching your life…and I pray that you are excited about the weekend. It is going to be a great time when the “family” gets together on Sunday to worship and fellowship. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to grant you His medicine…a merry heart.
In conversations I have heard people talk about their lives and the situations they are in. They talk of their brokenness and where they are experience hurt and where they feel like they aren’t ‘enough’ and how limited they feel their lives are. Reflecting on these conversations and life-defining statements that were being made, I asked God for His insight. He directed me to an odd Scripture passage. I won’t quote it all here but you can read it for yourself. The gist of the story is this…the prophet saw a man with a measuring stick and when asked what he was doing, the man said he was measuring Jerusalem. He wanted to understand it’s size. However, an angel was sent to the man to tell him not to measure what he could see because God was building a city without physical walls. God said He was going to be the ‘wall’…a wall of fire, in fact. (Zechariah 2:1-5)
“So what!?” – I can hear you say. Let us say that the city being measured represents our lives. We want to measure our lives, know the boundaries, build the walls that define us and limit us. God says – “No!” – you must not limit your life and build a wall for I want to give you a life without walls. I will be your wall of fire – of protection , of comfort, of confidence, of purpose…I will define your life. You remember that Jesus said that He came to give us life and a life without walls–full and deep and wide. (John 10:10)
I believe it to be true that all too often we don’t believe that we can be living a ‘without walls’ sort of life. We see the failures and the brokenness and the hurts and the lack of whatever that we think defines our lives creating ‘walls’. We don’t see the opportunities and the possibilities and the potential of having a wall of fire that wants to expand so that we have room to be more. Here is a statement that I read…He (God) will be the glory in our midst and whisper to us that our lives, no matter how small they may seem to us, are enough because He is enough.
Something to think about over the weekend — be blessed!
