Greetings to you on the last day of June 2017 – may you experience the wrap-around love of God the Father , expressed through THE Risen Son, and affirmed through the Holy Spirit who lives inside of you! I trust that you have had a good week and are excited about this Canada Day weekend … it is going to be special! Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to be attentive to what is on your heart and in your thoughts so that He can release all that you need, when you need it, and in a way that you will understand.
One more big sleep until Canada Day 150! How are you doing with your ‘150 things’ lists? Okay, okay, I won’t go there. Did you know that the official and formal name of our country is “Dominion of Canada”? When the Fathers of Confederation were meeting to establish Canada as a country it was unanimously decided that this country would be called – Dominion of Canada. It was Sir Leonard Tilley from New Brunswick that suggested ‘dominion’ based on the words – He [God] shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth … Psalm 72:8 KJV.
From the very beginning of our history as a country it was acknowledged that God was in control. Over the years the name “Dominion of Canada” faded until it was only used as a formality. Oddly enough, “God” as the One in control has faded away as well until we need Him for some ‘formality’ in our lives. I wonder what our country would be like if we took a more active understanding of the God who has ‘dominion’?
In Hebrew [Jewish] faith, the daily routine begins with the Shema – Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. — Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them a symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NIV.
I try to begin each day with the acknowledgement, usually silently – God, you are God … and I am not. I will need your help today. Oh, I try to end my day with a similar acknowledgement – God, you are God … and I am not – forgive me for trying to be you today. Thank you for all your help.
Have a good weekend – enjoy your blessings!
