A Church with a Heart for our Community

July 20th Thursday

Greetings to you in the healing name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What an interesting day God has provided us with! Will it rain or thunder and lightning or will it simply sneak around us? No matter – it will be good. I trust that you have had a good few days as you walked out you faith in the midst of every day’s surprises and challenges. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release peace beyond understanding, new every morning mercy, effervescent joy, and amazing grace.

I have just come from my therapy session…or so it has been described in my daily devotional. The author has been defining ‘psychotherapy’  as a means by which we can relieve the internal pressure that we often carry around with us. ‘Psychotherapy’ says the author is simply … ‘talking therapy’, a process, if you will, whereby the individual ‘talks’ himself/herself into a state of well-being.

This approach was something I learned thirty years ago or so when I took a course on “Crisis Intervention” but had forgotten. The idea is that people often have the answers to their life questions within themselves, so if they can keep talking to a counsellor, they can often ‘heal’ themselves. In the devotional, the author, says that as a follower of the Christ I have access to His presence as ‘Counsellor’ as well as the Holy Spirit who is the ‘another counsellor’ that Jesus said would come…and did come.

Therefore, when I am spending time in prayer…talking to God…I am in a sense in a ‘psychotherapy session’ with a counsellor who is always “IN”, his door is always open, and though He allows me to talk…He sure knows how to ask the right questions to keep the conversation flowing. I suppose that is why I appreciate the truth in the words of the song…They who seek the throne of grace – Find that throne in every place – If we live a life of prayer – God is present everywhere.

Something to think about — be blessed!
