Greetings to you in the Name of our “Redeemer King”, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! On this dull morning you have a challenge … to bring the ‘light’ to someone else – remember the children’s hymn: Jesus bids us shine! Okay – we’ll pause for a moment or two while you sing-hum-whistle that tune and smile at the remembrance. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to whisper words of healing and strength and peace to you.
I have been thinking about the coming advent season and the need for a glimmer of light in the darkness of these disturbing and confusing days. I recall a song which I used to like at Christmas time: “A light came out of darkness – No light or hope had we – Til Jesus came from Heaven – Our light and hope to be – Oh, as I read the story – From birth to dying cry – A longing fills my bosom – To meet him by and by.” William A. Hawley. We need some “light and hope” these days as world events and threats of war/terrorism and immigrant crisises and political correctness and man’s inhumanity towards others and back-biting and fault-finding swirl around us. Do you remember the Anne Murray song that was released at Christmas 30 years or so ago – “I sure could use a little ‘good news’ today!” or Merle Haggard, from 40 years or so ago, singing: “If we make it through December we’ll be fine”…? I believe it is time to bow our heads and quiet ourselves before God and…PRAY!
This morning God sent me a verse of Scripture: “Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work. When you find me, you find life, real life, to say nothing of GOD’s good pleasure. But if you wrong me, you damage your very soul; when you reject me, you’re flirting with death.” Proverbs 8:34-36 The Message. “Awake and ready – alert and responsive”…maybe those are better attitudes than “worried and concerned” or “reluctant and depressed”. After this God sent a quote along to ponder: “If you only have ten minutes to pray, spend eight minutes worshipping” -Derek Prince. I know this to be true – praise and worship can definitely change the atmosphere of my world and at the same time it changes me…it brings a refreshing and an energizing. Today, instead of telling God about everything that is wrong in the world, in your family, in your church, or in yourself…tell what you know to be ‘right’ about Him. Praise Him!
Something to think about…be blessed!
