A Church with a Heart for our Community

March 5th Friday

Greetings to you in the name of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior!  Another winter’s day in the Kingdom and another day to exercise our faith by declaring – “This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it!”  Now look out the window and do it again! I trust that have had a good week and are getting ready for the weekend and all the blessings that are waiting for you. This morning I will be praying for you, asking Father to release a peace into your being that does not make sense…may you receive a joy that inspires strength…may you receive an extra measure of grace that enables you to handle all your challenges.

This is “New Music Friday” and I have been checking out a few of the new songs and albums that have been released. I have a sense that the Spirit is moving in the hearts and minds of musicians and songwriters. There seems to be a renewed understanding of God’s grace, strength, and faithfulness…the lyrics and music have more depth. There is a continued focus on revival and renewal…not so much that it is happening but that we need it to happen. There is also an interesting trend of re-working hymns of faith with new arrangements and sometimes a chorus.

There have been two old hymns that have caught my attention this week in my Lenten devotions and both deal with power of the blood of Jesus. The first – There is a fountain filled with blood-Drawn from Immanuel’s veins-And sinners plunge beneath the flood-Lose all their guilty stains. The second – What can wash away my sins-Nothing but the blood of Jesus-What can make me whole again-Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Okay, I will stop here whilst you sing them to yourself or whoever is close by.

I have been reminded once more about the power that is found in the blood of Jesus: the blood that can wash away my sin – the blood that can rescue me from death – the blood that daily keeps me clean – the blood that makes me whole and gives me peace. This morning I am giving thanks once again that the Lenten journey will take me to Easter with all of its spiritual “trimmings” .

Have a blessed weekend…
