A Church with a Heart for our Community

March 19th Thursday

Greetings in the name of “the Lord of Armies” (James 5:4) and in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! What a beautiful sunny morning in the Kingdom against the backdrop of peaceful blue. I trust that you are enjoying the relentless presence of God working all around you. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to continue releasing healing and health to you. If you are going to carry a ‘burden’ today…may it be a burden of thankfulness!

There is a ‘jail break’ going on around us and it started in the Kingdom many years ago…and it was initiated by Jesus with a bold declaration on a Sabbath morning in the synagogue. You may remember – Jesus is handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah and unrolling it, he read the words from Isaiah 61:1-2…The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners (jail break) and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”  Luke 4:18-19 NIV. Then, at another time, Jesus spoke to the religious crowd and proclaimed: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 NIV.

Freedom comes in all shapes and sizes. In the references given there was freedom of poverty of spirit and self, and the freedom from religiosity and spiritual propriety. I have witnessed the freedom from emotional bondage when an individual faces and forgives things of the past. I am watching people around me walking in freedom from sorrow and grief, from childhood trauma, from broken dreams, from unrealised expectations, from disappointment, from depression, from woundedness experienced from broken trust…and I know that the “jail break” Jesus announced was multi-faceted. A “jail break” from: emotional, spiritual, relational, generational – prisons.

I know that you know that a declaration or proclamation needs to be activated — which, of course, it was through the life-death-resurrection-ascension of Jesus. I, also, know that you know that even after the activation – there needs to be an acceptance of the “get out of jail” offer. Of course, I know that you know that even after acceptance of the offer, there has to be a ‘living out’ of the the accepted offer – the “get out of jail” card. My heart is heavy for those who done everything but ‘live it out’ in their lives…those who are still living in a prison cell with a door that is unlocked and sitting ajar. I don’t know — is freedom something to fear or has the prison become too comfortable or am I missing something? This I know and believe – God is big enough to redeem us and set us free from everything bad thing that we have done — and from every bad thing that has been done to us!

Be blessed…and enjoy your freedom!
