A Church with a Heart for our Community

June 13th Thursday

Greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Okay, who has been singing – “Showers of blessing, send them upon us, O Lord!”? Never mind – this is the day that God has carefully and thoughtfully created for us. It is a day that God wanted to bless us with. It is a day that God wants to see what we will do with it and in it. Are you ready the meet the day? Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to reveal Himself to you in ways that you can understand and respond to, and that He would touch your life with health, strength, and a happy heart.

I like to learn new insights into Scripture and I, also, like to learn tried and tested methods of applying God’s truth to everyday life. Now with that being said, I have been looking at these words: Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him – Psalm 37:7 NKJV. First, the word “rest” – creates the image of being comfortable, no striving, no frantic busyness, being comfortable right where you are and with who you are…it is a strong word. Second, the word “patiently”  would be best translated here as “expectantly” – like a mother who knows that childbirth is going to happen. However there is another meaning and it refers that point in a dance when you are caught up in the movement and find yourself twirling around in mid-air.

The intent of the meanings is that it takes an incredible amount of focus to be patient or expectant. In this context “focus” is not directing attention away from hundreds of other things but directing attention on “one” thing. So here goes a paraphrase of the verse: Get really comfortable in God’s presence and give Him your full attention. I am reminded of the words: Keep your eyes on Jesus…he never lost sight of where he was headed–that exhilarating finish in and with God…Hebrews 12:2  The Message.

The second thing I came across was an interesting way to respond to those almost daily moments of frustration that happen with people and situations. You know, those times when your “gentleness to all” is being tested. The suggestion is to simply say to yourself-within yourself …”Father, I love you, I love you, I love you” or Jesus, I love you…or Holy Spirit I love you… It is one thing to remind ourselves that we are loved but an entirely different thing when we are expressing ‘love’ to God. It is really hard to ‘let it all hang out’ with a person while you are telling God that you love him, I mean really love him.

Just a couple of thoughts to ponder …  be blessed!
