A Church with a Heart for our Community

June 11th Tuesday

Greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! “Oh what a beautiful morning – O what a beautiful day!” – it is good to start the day with a song! t is always easier to be happy and positive on a sunny morning–with the promise of it continuing all day. I trust that you had a great weekend and Monday, with lots of “neato-keeno” reasons to remind you that your are blessed…accepted and forgiven. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to encourage you and to use you to touch other people and situations with “grace”!

There are many references in the Bible to “hunger and thirst” and for whatever reason God has challenged me to spend a little bit of time with the topic of “thirst” in particular.Jesus talks about being the great ‘thirst-quencher” in a conversation with a woman at a well – John 4:13-14 and He tells a street full of worshipers that He was the “real thing” … living water – John 7:37 and He tells his disciples that being “thirsty” is a blessing – Matthew 5.

However, my question was, or is: what is it that one is “thirsty” for in these different verses…what is the context? Therefore I was pleased and challenged when God, using his very unique delivery service, sent a few definitions for “thirst” or at least what I believe He considers areas that He can address.  So here they are: thirst for ‘attention’ – longing to be liked and embraced ; ‘affection’ – longing to be enjoyed, to be delighted in, t bring pleasure ; ‘affirmation’ – to have what it takes, to be a blessing ; ‘acceptance’ – to feel that I belong, that I am desired ; satisfaction’ – to feel ‘full’ and whole and at peace ; ‘significance’ – to make a difference, to have a purpose, to make an impact ; ‘security’ – to know that I am going to be okay…no concerns about tomorrow.

One of the most beautiful and intimate aspects of how Jesus ‘quenches’ our thirst is found in his invitation…He simply says…”Come to me!” not a system or a program or some ideal. “No!”, says Jesus, “come to me! I can quench your thirst!”  There is, of course, a song that has these words in it…”I tried the broken cisterns,Lord-But, ah! their waters failed-E’en as I stooped to drink they fled-And mocked me as I wailed…Now none but Christ can satisfy-No other name for me-There’s love and life and lasting joy-Lord Jesus, found in thee.”

Just a little something to ponder – be blessed!
