A Church with a Heart for our Community

January 16th Friday

Greetings in the name of the One who came to manifest God’s glory, Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! What a beautiful Friday morning!  I trust that have had a good week – living in the shelter of the Most High and resting in the shadow of the Almighty…finding refuge under his wings (Psalm 91:1,4b  NIV). I hope that you are looking forward to the weekend…especially, gathering with your church family to seek – find – and celebrate the awesomeness of God. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to bring healing, health, and hope.

This morning I am listening to a new ‘cd’ by  a group that is new to me – The Sons of Korah. They are an Australian group that focus on singing arrangements from the Book of Psalms. They are quite enjoyable and the simplicity of their music is humble and powerful. I think I might have to download the complete album, rather than listen to samples. The fact that I am listening to this ‘cd’ is a breadcrumb on another trail of teaching that God wants me to explore. It is the trail called – “humility.”

It started with a story about a group of children who built a clubhouse for their ‘club’ to meet. One of the things they decided to do at the first meeting was to craft the rules of their club. They ended up with three basic rules: 1] Nobody act big. 2] Nobody act small. 3] Everybody act medium.  Strangely enough that is a good working definition of humility – “Just ‘act medium’. Believable. Honest, human, thoughtful, and down to earth. Regardless of your elevated position or high pile of honours or row of degrees or endless list of achievements … just stay real! – Charles Swindoll.

Then came a devotion about the power of humility expressed in nature – God made the oceans to be at the ‘low point’ so that all the waters of earth would flow down toward the ocean and as a result the oceans became large and powerful…and in like manner Jesus humbled himself to the place of servant-hood. Jesus Christ, the Son of the Most High God humbled himself to be a servant in order to reflect the majesty of God. When He calls us to servant-hood – he humbles us so that we can reflect the majesty of a holy God. I guess humility is not weakness.

How about this, today – all of God’s ‘kids’ … “Act medium!”

Have a great weekend…be blessed!
