Greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Today may the Presence of the Holy Spirit rest on you! What a beautiful morning in the Kingdom – lovely sunshine and cloudy blue skies that can encourage you and facilitate hope. I trust all is well in your world today. I will be praying for you throughout this day, asking Father to respond to the cry of your heart and release a perfectly-planned breakthrough of grace, mercy, love, peace, and hope.
I had one of those serendipitous moments recently – you know what I mean, you are searching for something in particular and in the midst of the search you discover something that is just what you need but didn’t know it. I actually have quite a few moments like this but they usually happen when I set out to do a chore and discover something else that seems more interesting and as I follow that path, I get totally side-tracked to the point that I completely forget what I was originally doing. Now, I know that you know what I mean and these are not age-related memory lapses but divine moments!
Oddly enough there are a few Bible verses that speak to this phenomena. We are encouraged to follow Paul’s example and remember-This one thing I do-I take my focus off what is around me and concentrate on my task. In Proverbs we are told that if we don’t have a vision or a goal we will perish, lose our way. The Psalmist says that one thing is what he will concentrate, he will seek God’s face. Jesus even tells a young man that he lacks one thing…the right goal.
However, as I read my Bible this morning there was a story of Jesus having a serendipitous moment. Jesus is on his way to the house of a man called Jairus (Mark 5)when a women reaches out and touches the hem of his garment in order to be healed. I don’t think it was ‘planned’ that way, but this stopped Jesus in his tracks and a personal encounter with this woman occurs and Jesus uses it for a teaching-time. Of course, Jesus arrives at Jairus’ house and performs a miracle-healing.
It seems to me that these kind of serendipitous moments happened with regularity in Jesus’ life…and every one of them were important – elsewise why would they be mentioned. Yes, these moments can be awkward and inconvenient but they often, very often, were as important as the endgame. I wonder if we should, and I know people who do, pray for serendipitous moments to occur in the midst of their day. They pray prayers like…Lord, I am available today – in the midst of what I think is important or what I want to accomplish…I am available to speak to someone, to go in an unplanned direction, to serve you, to interrupt my life for you, to make a phone call, send an email or text. Lord, I am available to enter into a ‘divine moment’ !
Something to ponder … be blessed!
