A Church with a Heart for our Community

February 18th Friday

Greetings to you…who belong to the God who loves you…in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! What a beautiful morning – there is special beauty to our world when the sunshine and blue skies stand guard over freshly fallen snow. What a delight to acknowledge that this is the day that the Lord has made for us, so let us rejoice and be glad in it! This morning I will be praying for you, asking Father God to come to your heart and share the joy of His presence with you – may it transform you.

As today is Friday…it is new music release day, and the Christian music world has been affected by covid19. The focus of so much of the lyrics has been on the faithfulness of God, the challenges of being a person of faith, and how we are growing in our understanding of God. There are two songs which have captured my attention. First, there is a song  entitled “The Best Is Yet To Come” and a few lines from it say…”The best is yet to come-You know just what I need-You know me by name-You never miss a thing – Faithful from beginning – Faithful to the ending – Walking with You gets better with time – The best is yet to come.”  The second song is entitled “Wouldn’t it be like You” …and a few lines from it say: “And wouldn’t it be like You-To be different than we thought-Different than we want-But better, You’re better.”

As much as I appreciate good praise and worship songs that are like that “good old rock and roll-the kind of music that thrills my soul…I value and need the songs that guide me past my understanding of God being “good all the time”. I need to know that there are facets of His character that I have not discovered yet…and that are different than what I expected. If I am going to experience a ‘new normal’, then I must grasp that the ‘best is yet to come’ and that He is going to be not only different than what I expected but better.

I am grateful for the new songs that engage my thoughts and perceptions and lead me to a place of quiet rest…perhaps by still waters where my soul is restored. Do not be afraid to listen to God speaking to you through music and songs that are new and maybe a little awkward to you at first…you may experience serendipity.

Blessings!
