A Church with a Heart for our Community

December 1st Tuesday

Happy December 1st! Greetings in the name of the One who makes all things possible, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! I trust that you had a great weekend and Monday…saying “good-bye” to November, preparing room in your life for the coming season of celebration, and gathering with family/friends to worship the One that brings meaning to life! Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to reveal Himself to you in ways that you will understand, so that you can respond back to Him.

I have been pondering an idea that was given in a devotion. The writer was talking about interacting with God and his suggestion was a very practical one. He suggested that when we need comfort, direction, insight, or wisdom – go to God’s Word (the Psalms was his favourite because it deals with a vast array of human emotions)…and read until you begin to hear your voice rising from the recorded words. Now it is time to stop and feed on the Word that God has given to you…personally, at that moment. It is with these words that God wants to interact with you through. (Bill Johnson, “Hosting His Presence”).

So I thought I would try it…and it is very meaningful. I can read a prescribed portion in a devotion or reading plan, but when I am hearing “my voice” speaking words to me … there is a powerful moment unfolding. I had one of those recently…I found myself reading a portion of Scripture and I heard my voice giving me a blessing…listen to it: The Lord bless you – David…and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you – David and be gracious to you – David; the LORD turn his face toward you – David, and give you – David – peace. Now, I have often passed this blessing to others…but God wanted me to hear me pronouncing the blessing on myself, as if it were himself.

I began to wonder, how often do we give God’s Word to someone and then think to ourselves…”That is the Word I need right now.” Maybe that is the moment when you need to find a quiet spot and give yourself a “good talking to!” Maybe there are times when God wants to use His Word and your voice to tell you what you really need to hear.

Just something to think about on December 1st – “Be blessed!”
