A Church with a Heart for our Community

August 7th Friday

Greetings to you in the Name above every name, such a wonder – such power – such a beauty in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Another lovely day coming to us from our Creator-God, the Lord,- we must and we will rejoice and be glad for it and in it! I trust that you have had a good week with many blessings and pleasant surprises and encouraging encounters. Now get ready for the weekend, especially the time when you will gather with your church family to worship – God is going to give us more than we could ever imagine. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release…beauty for your ashes, the oil of joy for your sorrows, and a garment of praise for your discouragement.

I have found a new friend and he is not who you might expect. He appears only briefly but makes a profound impact in the development of a man who God wants to use. My new friend is a bit of a bully, lives on the dark side, has a strong work ethic, and stands tall among men. His name is…Goliath. One of the comments about him that caught my attention is this…For forty days the Philistine came forward ever morning and evening and took his stand.  1 Samuel 17:16 NIV.

I know he is the enemy but what a commitment to his role – forty days, a God-ordained time period – morning and evening – making his stand. God uses him to reveal the character of a whole army and the faith of one, up to this moment, rather insignificant man – David. You know the story from here until the end but it is that verse that caught my attention. I am reminded that when enemies come into our reality, their role has a best before date. They can take their stand, exert their control but God’s limits their activity to fulfill a purpose – usually to develop the plan He has for us.

As I was thinking of David, the giant-slayer, a song came on that described how he grew his relationship with God. Imagine David unwinding after this encounter and he finds his quiet place with God…and he sings to God – Dance with me…God, dance with me – I won’t say a word – I will let the world outside disappear – What I have here in this moment is all that I need – Dance with me…God, dance with me – (many thanks to Johnny Reid).

Two men, each with a God-ordained purpose, one who has his destiny affirmed just as the other fulfills his. God has plans for every person and sometimes those plans intersect with someone else’s at just the right time.

Something to think about…have a blessed day!
