Greetings to you in the ‘Heaven’s Champion’, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Another beautiful morning in the Kingdom ,,, and another opportunity to be used by God for the purposes of encouraging, loving, forgiving, serving, building up, and honouring one another. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to give you at least one opportunity to tell someone about the God you love and believe in.
You never know where or how God is to show up with a word of encouragement or challenge or affirmation or instruction. Usually, as far as I can ascertain, He uses music and lyrics to reveal himself to me. However, last night I was doing some ‘recreational’ reading…and for me that is a good mystery – whodunit book. One of the characters in the story is a police officer in the Irish force – the Garda. She has had a very stressful and exhausting day, so she is getting herself to bed and as part of her regimen she says a prayer that she had learned growing up.
The prayer goes like this: ” I thank You, Lord, for watching me and seeing what I could not see, that if I opened up my eyes, my life would bring a sweet surprise – that love and happiness are always there, if only I believe in prayer – that even in the dead of night,, Your light, O Lord, will soon shine bright.” I have been pondering those words for a few days now – the simplicity of the prayer and how it came to me and how I see it answered in the life of my police officer…“that if I opened up my eyes, my life would bring a sweet surprise”.
I couldn’t help but contrast those words with a song that …I saw God today – His fingerprints are everywhere … I’ve been to church – I’ve read the Book – I know He’s there, but I don’t look – Near as often as I should. I wonder at times, maybe you do too, how many times I’ve missed out in seeing God…and that sweet surprise eluded me. Perhaps the times I have said that God wasn’t there really means…I wasn’t there!. Like Jacob I say…”Surely God was in this place and I didn’t know it!”
By the way, my police officer – Katie, goes looking for God and the wise old priest gently challenges her…It is not God you are looking for – ’tis yourself you need to find.”
Something to think about on a Wednesday — be blessed…see God, find your sweet surprise!
