Greetings to you in the name of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a delightful morning in the Kingdom – another to day to “praise God from whom all blessings flow!” I trust that you are sensing a longing in your spirit – a hunger and a thirst – for God’s presence and intervention in your life. I will be praying for you today, asking Father to smile upon your ‘hunger and thirst’ as He creatively releases all that you and I need…and even more – to experience satisfaction.
Yesterday I received a new song…yes, on a Tuesday – not a Friday…and it seems that God knows what I need before I do. Now let me set the stage – there is a image in my mind of David, you know – the shepherd, giant slayer, warrior, king, and worshipper – that comes from two Bible verses. First, as a warrior and leader of the army, he returns home from battles to find his enemies have raided his camp and taken all the families captive. His soldiers and men are devastated, as was he, and while the soldiers expressed their pain and anger – it says that David strengthened himself, encouraged himself in God –1 Samuel 30:6. Interestingly, the Bible does reveal at this point how he did that. However, as King and when life was a little more settled and peaceful we are told that David erected a tent and placed God’s presence – the ark of the covenant – inside of it. We are further told that David would spend much time sitting before God, the ark of the covenant and expressing praise and thanksgiving, 2 Samuel 7:18.
In my mind, I see David – the King with his shepherd’s harp sitting before God and using music – sounds and lyrics – to express himself to God. In fact, I believe that the words recorded in 2 Samuel 7:18 – 29 are the basis for many of David’s psalms. Now this is where the song I received yesterday comes into play. The words of the chorus sounded to me like the thoughts – in simple words, David might have used and of course, the words would be sung over and over again as the music ‘happened’ in David. Even as I give you the words just now, I want to sing them: Thank You for the way You fight for me – Always bring me back to victory – You have won my heart, Jesus – Dustin Walker. Yes, I know that David would not have used the name “Jesus” … but the songwriter does.
Why is this so significant? When I dare to spend time sitting before God expressing the emotions of my heart – the more I find myself giving God praise and thanksgiving. The more I give God praise and thanksgiving, the more I am encouraged and strengthened. It is in this moment that I discover that the “joy of the Lord -and my joy in the Lord-is my strength” Nehemiah 8:10. Yes, indeed: Thank You for the way You fight for me – Always bring me back to victory – You have won my heart, Jesus!
Blessings on you today!
