Greetings in the name the One who is called “The Word” , Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Have you had enough ‘April showers’ yet? I think that I am going to go out and look for some “mayflowers”! You know the rest of that saying…if April showers bring Mayflowers, then Mayflowers must bring pilgrims! You see – the ‘corn’ has already started to grow. Okay, okay – today I will be praying for you, asking Father to ‘shower’ you with blessings and to wash away the dust of earthly striving. This is going to be a good day!
I have been ‘collecting’ this week. I have been collecting a few quotes about God’s Word and how it affects our lives. Each quote has challenged me to ponder and respond. Therefore, if God wants me to do so then I believe He wants you to do likewise. First, “the evidence of the indwelling life of Jesus within us is that His Word is becoming understandable to us” Oswald Chambers. I really like that thought and was feeling quite pleased with myself until…
Second and third, “I’ve learned that God will not violate His Word. But He doesn’t seem to mind violating our understanding of His Word” … “Read your Bible. God does what He pleases. He is God and will not fit into our boxes” – Bill Johnson. These are concepts that challenge my idea that – He is God and He does not change! Of course, His character, His nature do not change but His methods-ways-means are so varied. God seems to delight in doing the unusual.
I don’t know about you, but I have some understanding of God’s Word that I hold close to my heart and understanding. Now let this fourth quote speak to you. It is from a well-respected Bible teacher – “I have learned that I do not hold the Bible. The Bible holds me.” – John Piper. As I was letting that idea dance around in my thoughts I was drawn to a verse of Scripture: Deep calls out to deep in the roar of your waterfalls…Psalm 42:7 NIV. This is my experience, in those incredibly noisy, busy, and overwhelming moments of life I have cried out to God from the “deep” part of my being and He has responded with a “deep” insight to Himself from the Word.
I appreciate the translation that says: The deep chaos of my need calls out to the deep kindness of Your love…all day long God’s promises of love pour over me… – Psalm 42:7a, 8a TPT. At these moments I like to think of God’s Word as a flowing stream…a river, and as the old proverb says…You never get into the same river twice, it is always moving. I believe God wants us to understand that His Word is always new to us, always has something quite unique for us, and something that will hold us.
May God bring delight to you!
