Greetings in the name of “my Light” (Psalm 27:1) and in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! What a beautiful Spring morning in the Kingdom – thank you, God – for sunny mornings and blue skies! I trust that you had a grand weekend and Monday… and are expectantly excited about the week ahead. As this is the last week of April, there are things that need to be attended to so that we can enter May ready for new assignments…so I will pray for you today, asking Father to release renewed strength and energy.
I read a story of a Dad and Mom out shopping with their young daughter. As they moved down an aisle in the store, the little girl saw a flashlight that she wanted her parents to purchase for her. There was a bit of negotiating going on until Dad and Mom relented. The result being – a flashlight in the hands of the daughter. The little girl was delighted and kept flicking the light on and off…then, in one of those moments of simple profoundness, she asked her parents: “Can we go and find some darkness so I can use my light?” We, of course, smile at the simplicity of that event – but there is a challenging truth revealed.
You and I are designated as “flashlights” or lamps by Jesus (Matthew 5:14-16) and our mandate is to go and light up the darkness around us. Such a simple task…let the light of who you are affect the darkness that hovers around you. Let a kind deed or a kind word or a listening ear shine into the darkness of someone’s world. Let the light of your faith and conviction shine against the darkness of a world in denial of what is good and pure and honest. Let the light of unselfishness and patience and forbearance shine into a ‘me first’ world.
When was the last time that you or I deliberately and consciously said to our “Father” …“Can we go somewhere dark so I can be the light?” Oh – don’t worry about wearing down the battery – you have a proven ‘rechargeable’ power supply!
Be blessed!
