A Church with a Heart for our Community

August 26th Friday

Greetings to you in the beautiful, powerful, and wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! It seems like Mr. Sunshine decided to take a break this morning, yet we can still declare that “this is the day that the Lord has made – we will rejoice and be glad in it!” Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release a fresh measure of health, strength, and bright hope…may you be drawn by his invitation – “I desire the pleasure of your company.”

Over the past few weeks I have been reading…and then pondering a few books that explored the idea of revival within the church. Goodness knows that after two plus years of covid 19 and how that has affected our daily living…and in particular the impact that has had on our church life…we need some sort of revival.  Yes, the church in most places has returned to gathering, but it seems that something is missing and there are those who think we can simply go back to where we left off and continue…however, it doesn’t seem to be the answer.

In fact, I think there were problems before covid 19 . I am reminded of a verse that states…”they were going to church, yes, but they weren’t really believing anything they heard.” 2 Timothy 3:5 LB – “they will hold to the outward form of our religion but reject its real power.” 2 Timothy 3:5 GNT. In days past we would create new programs to bring people in or we would have special meetings. I am thinking that we have it all wrong. The church is not supposed to attract people, the church is supposed to attract God…and then God would attract people – after all Jesus did say that if He is lifted up, He would draw people to him,

I think the need right now is for the church–the people of God–to pray for the return of God’s presence…we need to pray – I am hungry, I am thirsty, I am starving…for your Presence – Show me your Glory! Show me Your face! We need to confess that we are tired of going through the motions…we want, we need your Presence! Our city, our community, our church, our home, our heart — needs and wants and desires the Presence of the Living 2022 God. This I believe…we need to restore the heart of worship because worship brings God’s presence, and His Presence changes everything as it drives the darkness and doubt and despair and discouragement away.
