Greetings to you…beloved of the Father…in the powerful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! What a beautiful summer morning in the Kingdom…and what an opportunity to rejoice and be glad in a day that has been made for us by the Lord! I trust that all is well with you and yours. This morning I will be praying for you, asking Father – “to bless you and keep you…to smile upon you and provide for you…to look you full in the face…to prosper you” – may your strength be renewed – may your weariness be removed – may your soul be refreshed!
I suppose it is because of what is been in my thoughts as of late, but this morning I woke with the words of a chorus in my heart…and it seems to be stuck on “repeat”. The words were penned by Robert Cull some thirty-five years ago…”open my ears Lord and help us listen”. The line was in a chorus – Open my eyes Lord!”. Recently, a modern artist penned similar words…”you hear, but you don’t listen” – Drake. However it was Jesus who commented that we have eyes to see but don’t perceive, ears to hear but we don’t listen (Matthew 13:13). This past Monday at prayer time we mentioned a revival song that says…I hear the sound of distant thunder.
Hearing and listening, as it relates to God is so vital in the times we are going through. God, I believe, loves us so much that He wants to speak to us…if He can get our attention. I remember being told that when a parent wants a child to listen to what he is being told that often the child is directed to look at the parents face…sometimes the child has to get the parent to look at him so he can be heard as well. We need to “open and eyes and see Jesus, so that He can have our attention and know that we are listening.
We are in a season spiritually when God, I believe, is speaking to us and we need to pay attention. I hear God speaking through His Word with the power to lift our burdens, overpower our oppression, to bring healing, and to release glory. (Isaiah 58). When I deliberately “listen” I believe that I can hear the sound of breakthrough and miracles and victory and revival…even in the midst of all we are experiencing in the new normal called “covid19”. Of course, I don’t need to remind you that we must listen with our ears…and our eyes and our emotions, so that we can hear words, life, encouragement, and affirmation.
Every morning, in Jewish households the day begins with the words…Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your souls and with all your strength. …Deuteronomy 6:4-9. Perhaps we could read that…”Listen up! Israel” or “Listen up, followers of the Christ!”
Something to ponder…be blessed!
