A Church with a Heart for our Community

May 5th Wednesday

Greetings to you…friend of God…in the sweetest, most beautiful, powerful, and wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! Once again we declare that – “this is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and we will be glad in it!” I believe that God is going to bless you this day in unexpected ways…and He is going to use you to bless someone in similar fashion — it will be a “double-blessing day.” You and I, of course, must be willing to give and receive…are you ready? Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to speak to you in ways that will be meaningful to you and may He give you the opportunity to respond to Him.

I am not sure why…but God did it again! He invaded my devotions with “re” words. There were a number of “restore” references and another “rebuild” or two, however there were two new words. He gave me the words – “rekindle” and “reignite” ! Both those words remind me that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and begin to follow Him, His presence creates a fire in our spirit…a fire like that which God instructed to be lit in the temple and to not let go out.

For me, there are three references to this fire burning within us and the importance of keeping it well fueled.  There is an interesting insight told of one who was a little discouraged with God and thought he might resign or at least retire from even speaking about God…and the fire refused to be extinguished…it kept burning (Jeremiah 20:9 ff). Then there is the two who were walking away from Jerusalem and the resurrection not understanding what was happening and had an encounter with the fire so that their hearts burned within them (Luke 24:13-35). Next is the pastor who needed to be reminded that if you are going to serve God and His people you must fan the flame or rekindle the fire on a regular basis (2 Timothy 1:6).

I am thinking that in these challenging days when it is so discouraging and when things don’t seem to make sense and when God’s people need help…we all need to ‘rekindle’ our spiritual fire, we need to ‘reignite’ the Spirit’s presence and equipping. We cannot let our fire go out.

One other thought, a quote, that I came across…His restoration (rekindling, reigniting) is always greater than the original in quality, Joseph Prince.

Something to ponder…may you be blessed!
