A Church with a Heart for our Community

February 25th Thursday

Greetings to you – fellow-travelers on the Lenten journey, in the powerful, wonderful, and beautiful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! What a beautiful winter’s morning in the Kingdom! Now let’s sing – “This is the day, this is the day that  the Lord hath made, that the Lord hath made;-We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it. – This is the day that the Lord hath made,-We will rejoice and be glad in it. -This is the day, this is the day that the Lord hath made.” Well done! I have a sense that this is a “warrior’s song” – as we face the challenges that life sends our way. I trust all is well in your world and God’s presence surrounds you. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to  release healing to you and release an extra measure of grace and release the assurance that He is listening to your heart’s cry.

Over the past few days, my Lenten devotions have been focusing on Jesus washing Peter’s feet and the “words” that were spoken by Peter and Jesus. It was challenging to ponder a story that I thought I understood. In the midst of considering the story, the words tp a very favorite song were brought to mind and for the first time I realized how they connected to this event.

If you recall, Peter does not want Jesus to wash his feet and Jesus says that it is a necessity. Peter says if that is the case, then give me a bath. Jesus told him that he did not need a bath, just his feet needed to be washed. The spiritual message is that once a person has experienced salvation, he does not need to be saved again but needs daily forgiveness because our feet go places they shouldn’t, our hands do things they shouldn’t, our eyes see things they shouldn’t….and sometimes our feet don’t go places they should, our hands don’t do things they should, our eyes don’t see things we should…

My song is a personal reflection of our awareness of this daily need to come before God…wash from my hands the dust of earthly striving-take from my mind the stress of secret fear-cleanse thou the wounds from all but Thee far hidden-and rise Emmanuel’s tide and my soul overflow…Yes, like Peter, I need…we need to come before God again and again, not to experience salvation again, but to be cleansed afresh. I suppose it is like having a shower in the morning and then getting our hands dirty…no need for a shower but a washing of hands

Something to think about—be blessed!
