A Church with a Heart for our Community

October 9th Friday

Greetings to you in the ‘Name above every name’, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Wow! it looks like Thanksgiving weekend is off to a good start and – this is the day that the Lord has made for us so let us rejoice and be glad in it…enjoy it, find meaning in it, be surprised by our discoveries, and take opportunities to bless someone. I trust that you have had a good week and are expecting a great weekend. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to bring a sense of well-being, an abiding peace, a settled heart, and a lingering joy.

As this is Thanksgiving weekend…and there is a strangeness about it, I want to remind you to not lose your song! Yes, it is in Ephesians 5:18 where we are told to “be filled with the Spirit” and the verses following call us to do that filling by singing and being grateful…read it for yourself! I know that it seems a little odd but one of the secrets to nourishing your joy and strength so that you can respond to the pressures of life – is to keep a song of praise in your heart.

Here are some words from a devotional…All through the day, we should be singing, if not aloud then at least silently allowing a song of praise to dance through our minds. You may not actually vocalize words and music. You may simply express a grateful attitude. In your thoughts, you are thinking about God’s goodness. Or maybe you go round humming a tune.  Maybe it’s something as simple as whistling while you work, but throughout the day, you’re making melody in your heart. Under your breath, you’re saying, “Lord, thank You for this day. Thank You that I am alive and healthy.” When you do that, you are filling up on the inside; God is replenishing your strength; He’s refilling your supply of joy and peace. – Joel Osteen.

This weekend, what song(s) could you carry in your heart? What is your song of “thanksgiving?” … Come ye thankful people come – Great is Thy faithfulness – Bringing in the sheaves – We gather together – For the beauty of the earth – Praise to the Lord, the Almighty – How great Thou art – Tell me the old, old story – Jesus loves – Jesus bids me shine – Thank you Lord ? I have an idea…make up your own personal song of “thanksgiving” – just start with…Lord, I just want to say “Thank You”  and then fill in the blanks as you make up a tune…and as you do you will be filling yourself up!

Something to think about…wait a moment, do I hear song?…have a blessed day and keep smiling!
