A Church with a Heart for our Community

August 13th Thursday

Greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! … through him you are approved, accepted, and loved by Almighty God – isn’t that simply amazing! Another beautiful morning to celebrate our Creator-God who made this day for us – let us rejoice and be glad in it! I trust that God has been blessing you in significant ways and encouraging you to grow. This morning I will be praying for you to have eyes to see and ears to hear and a mouth to tell all that He has done, is doing, and has promised to do.

This morning I want to share a story about a North African tribe’s rather interesting tradition. When a couple decide to have a baby the first act is for the woman to spend time alone listening for a song for the baby…with the song she returns to her husband and teaches him the song…then they start the baby-making…when the woman becomes pregnant she teaches the midwives and her family and the village people the baby’s song…when the birth is happening all the village is invited to sing the song…the child is taught his/her song and it will be sung over and over as the child grows…the song will be sung at his achievements and over his mistakes…the song will shape, form, and direct his/her life…and will be sung over his/her passing.

Now consider these words…The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing – Zephaniah 3:17. I wonder if this tribe had an insight…that God has a song that is unique to each person. I believe that Jesus had a song that the Father sang over him — “This is my son and I love him – This is my son and he pleases me – This is my son, so pay attention to him – This is my son and I love him!”

What about you and I…is there a song that God sings over us, a song that is unique to who we are? Can you imagine what He might sing over you…this God who loves you, who created you in his image, and who pays attention to all the details of your life? Can you hear his invitation…come near to me and I will come near to you? Can you hear him sing…I loved you before you were born?

The interesting thing about the Scripture verse is that it is not directed at individuals but at the nation. God sings over a nation…a nation that He has fought for, has saved, delights in, loves, and rejoices over…with singing! I wonder does God have a song that he sings over Canada…”you are mine from east to west and north to south, I will have dominion over you, and I will keep you free!?”

I wonder…does God have a song for our city? What might He sing…you are a city of diversity –  you are a city of compassion – you are a city of hard-workers – you are a city of more life than you are aware of – my hand covers you…city I love!

Just a little something to think about … have a blessed day … listen for the Father’s song – your song
