Greetings to you in the beautiful, wonderful, and powerful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What an interesting Spring morning in the kingdom…complete with a little snow to challenge our impatience! I trust you had a good weekend and Monday with moments of surprising blessings and revealing insights into God’s goodness. These days of “lock-down” have given us more opportunities to sit quietly and reflect on the who-what-where-when-why of our lives. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release an extra measure of health, strength and happiness within.
It is always humbling when God comes along and highlights something that I had dismissed as not to my preference. A few weeks ago I received notice of a few new release songs…and one caught my attention because of the title – “The Blessing” – so I went on a ‘hunting expedition’ and found the songs so that I could listen. However, the song didn’t ‘speak’ to me and I did not even listen to it all the way through. So, on Sunday as we listened to a live-stream of a worship service – one of the songs that the worship team presented was – “The Blessing” …and guess what…yes! I liked it.
The song is based On the words of the blessing that Aaron and the priests were instructed to give to the Israelites -see: Numbers 6:24-26, and on the words found in Deuteronomy 7:9, Psalm 121:8, and Psalm 115:14 . – if your interested, look it ip on youtube – “the Blessing” by Kari Jobe. The song is long and there seems to be repetitive but in these times we are in, I think it is important to sing scriptural truth once and twice and again.
However, let me remind you of His promise – The Lord bless you and keep you – Make His face shine upon you – And be gracious to you – The Lord turn His face toward you – And give you peace — May His favour be upon you – And a thousand generations – And your family and your children – And their children, and their children — May His presence go before you – And behind you, and beside you – All around you, and within you – He is with you, He is with you — In the morning, in the evening – In your coming and your going – In your weeping, and rejoicing – He is for you, He is for you.
This blessing from Numbers 6:24-26 was traditionally prayed over children every day…which means by the time they became teenagers and therefore considered adults, they had been blessed — over 4700 times. What a profound impact that was meant to have on a child…and of course, on the parent who spoke it over the children. What kind of challenge does that bring to you and I…for I don’t believe parents ever stopped praying God’s blessing on their family.
Something to think about – blessings on your day!
