Greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! I trust that you had a blessed weekend and are having a positive start to a new week…and a special week it is. First, today is ‘Shrove Tuesday’, so that means tomorrow is ‘Ash Wednesday’ – the beginning of the 40 days of Lent, and this year it coincides with Valentine’s Day…so there is a lot to sort out.
‘Shrove Tuesday’ is a day of preparation as one gets ready for Lent. Across our community there are many Pancake Suppers, a reminder that the season of Lent is significant – even if it isn’t celebrated as part of our modern tradition. Lent is a season of cleansing the soul so that we will capture the awe and majesty of Easter, and the cleansing begins today as we examine ourselves so that we can rid ourselves of unnecessary baggage in our lives. It is using up the bits and pieces in the pantry in making pancakes so we can start fresh.
Let me share God’s Word with you: The Psalmist says – I delight to do your will, my God, for Your living words are written upon the pages of my heart…Psalm 40:8 TPT – in Proverbs we are reminded – Trust in the Lord completely and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on Him to guide you, and He will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with Him in whatever you do, and He wwill lead you wherever you go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all …Proverbs 3:5-6 TPT . Now hear this: On days when you don’t feel very secure in who God has created you to be, remember that your feelings (opinions) are not the truth about who you are…God’s Word is the truth…Joyce Meyer
So take this day and enjoy it as you examine your words-actions-attitudes…so that you can rid yourself of what is unnecessary. Then tomorrow – Ash Wednesday -you can confess before God, repent, and receive His forgiveness- so that the Lenten journey will bring you ever closer to God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is going to be an adventure.
Blessings on your day!
