Greetings to you in the name of the Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! I trust that you had an enjoyable weekend filled with all the blessings that bring joy and peace to your heart. It seems we are in the ‘lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer’ and at times we are tempted to voice our displeasure…complain…about the heat, until we remember that in six months or so–different story. So, today is the day that God has prepared for us! I will be praying for you today, asking Father to lead you to quiet streams and green meadows – if only in your mind – so that He can refresh and restore.
I ‘signed in’ to a website that keeps me aware of new music being released, and one of the perks is being sent one new song from the ministry website each week. I usually download them until I have extra time to listen. Two or three weeks ago I downloaded a song that I was listening to yesterday and decided to bring it to new hour prayer time for the worship time. The song was very simple and God chose to anoint it as we sang unto Him a new song. One of the verses and the chorus go like this: Jesus, hold me with Your peace – When my fear’s surrounding me – You are in control – No matter what tomorrow holds … You are my only hope- I look to You alone – And even though I’m scared – You are always here – And that’s all I need to know … You are my only chance – My life is in Your hands -And even though I’m scared – You are always here – And that’s all I need to know — Greg Sykes.
The message of the song seemed to guide our prayer time and stir our faith. It was good! Now let me jump forward to this morning. I am doing my devotion when God decides to highlight Monday prayer time and the new song with some very powerful and challenging comments: Our lives are either based on faith – or they are not. This is what life comes down to: we either accept the government of God in the universe or we do not. Those who reject His rule, whether they realise it or not, live lives of ‘quiet desperation’; those who receive His rule can live lives of quiet confidence and faith. — Selwyn Hughes, Every Day With Jesus.
In a world of uncertainties and volatility it is reassuring and stabilising to put one’s faith in a Good Shepherd, so that even though we are scared, He is always there, and that is all we need to know!
Be blessed today!
