A Church with a Heart for our Community

October 15th Wednesday

Greetings in the name of the One who stands at our heart’s door and knocks hoping that we will invite him in, Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! Wow! a typical fall morning, minus the soft sunlight. I trust your week is going well and that ‘turkey withdrawal’ symptoms have dissipated somewhat. I will be praying for you today, asking Father to release joy, hope, and peace into your innermost being.

I have two thoughts or insights to share today. First, at sundown today a Jewish holiday begins. It is called Shemini Atzeret and acknowledges the eighth day of the high holy days of the Jewish ‘head of the year’ celebrations and the completion of the annual cycle of  the daily reading the Torah, so that it can start afresh.Shemini Atzeret is a transition day…moving from the excitement of the high holy days back to everyday life. The idea of beginning to read the Torah again suggests that God is saying to his people…”Don’t leave me behind, I am the constant in your life, you need me, let us get going on a fresh journey!”

Second, on my devotional calendar was this verse: “Every day, your lease on life is renewed. Resolve to give of yourself today. Help someone even though it takes time, look for the positive in others. Your day will be richer.” – an Irish saying.This speaks to me of one of the great truths from the Bible: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.  Lamentations 3: 22 – 25  NIV. Each day, it seems, is like a seed of hope that God plants in our lives – one seed every morning. Our assignment is to let it grow.
