A Church with a Heart for our Community

November 29th Thursday

Greetings to you in the name of the One who ‘came’, who is ‘here’, and who is ‘coming again’ … Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! This is one of those days when you look at the weather outside and understand it is late autumn and that … this is the day that God designed for us to make something out of it and to do so with words of rejoicing and gladness! …are you up for it? I trust that life has been good in your world over the last week and that you have encountered God’s blessings in a dozen different ways. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to “open the floodgates of heaven” and “break through” into your life.

As I was driving along this morning and pondering a few concerns, a song came to mind – “Some days are diamonds-Some days are rocks-Some doors open-Some roads are blocked” … Tom Petty – and then, “Some days are diamonds-Some days are stone-Some times the hard times won’t leave you alone-Some times the cold winds blow a chill in my bones” … John Denver.

I am grateful that when those kind of days come our way…and they do, that the “joy of the Lord is my strength!” Nehemiah 8:10. So as I listen to the above words, I sing back – Days of darkness do come over me-Sorrow’s path I often tread-But the Saviour still is with me-By His hand I am safely lead … Francis H Rowley. On a recent album, Russ Taff sings a song that says – Don’t try so hard-God gave you grace and you con’t earn it-Don’t think that your not worth it-Because you are-He gave you His love and He’s not leaving … (words by Amy Grant).

This Sunday, the Season of Advent begins the church year and in a very timely and interesting way the theme of challenging days is released. Just think of the music of advent…Come, O Come Emmanuel – Come Thou Long Expected Jesus – A Light Came Out of Darkness – Breath of Heaven lighten my darkness – Soon and very soon we are going to see the King…No more darkness, no more sorrow – yes, the season of advent leading up to the birth of Jesus begins with darkness and discouragement and desperation. However we have the hope of the words – Light of the world-you stepped down into darkness-Opened my eyes-Let me see..love, joy, hope, beauty.

Just a little something to consider…blessings!
