A Church with a Heart for our Community

November 1st Friday

Greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a lovely, seasonable start to November! No matter the rather ‘cool’ breeze and the cold ‘shower’ we are getting…this is the day that God has made for us…now can we–will we —give thanks and praise Him for a job well-done? I trust you had a good week with a bountiful assortment of blessings and insights and adventures to talk about. I pray that you are excited about the weekend and getting together with your Christian family to celebrate your faith. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release His ‘wrap-around’ love to you and give you access to the shelter of His powerful presence.

I was doing my morning reading and the topic of spiritual warfare and putting on the armour of God was being discussed. One thought that really struck me was how important each piece of the armour was and in particular the ‘breastplate of righteousness’ for it protects  the heart – our emotions and thinking and deciding, the place where we are truly ourselves. The place that our enemy – the evil one, so desperately wants to cripple and destroy. The place that so beautifully reveals who we were created to be. The place from which we live.

One of my authors made an interesting comment…”the way you handle the heart is everything. A man must know he is powerful; he must know he has what it takes. A woman must know she is beautiful; she must know she is worth fighting for.” – John Eldredge, Restoration Year. Further, he says…”for to know who you truly are, to find a life worth living, to love deeply, you simply must get your heart back.”

When I took the time to think these thoughts through I began to see afresh how critical spiritual warfare is and how necessary it is to put on the spiritual armour. I believe that knowing that you are loved by such a powerful God, who will fight for you, who empower you, who will see your beauty, who will equip you adequately — is worth putting a ‘breastplate of righteousness’ over to shield and protect.

Something to think about…have a blessed weekend!
