A Church with a Heart for our Community

November 18th Wednesday

Greetings in the name that can change your life, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Another interesting day in the Kingdom lies before us…a gift from God to embrace, to enjoy, to endure, to enter into, to elude, to evade — it is our choice. Of course the outcome of the day depends on our input…like a computer – what goes in is what comes out! Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release healing grace and mercy to you…in abundance.

Today the subject of “prayer” is on my mind…in truth it is never far away from my thoughts. I have been trying to understand it so that I can tap into the reality of the power that is available. However, it would seem that the “eureka” – I have found it moments only create a hunger for more. Any honest Christian writer-teacher-theologian-saint, knows that the understanding of prayer is a relentless quest that takes so many directions, trails, and side-trips. Anyway, let me share something I am ‘learning’ at this moment.

I think I always knew this to be true but it was so obvious that I took it for granted. Prayer is about being in the Presence of Jesus…and being passionate about it. I have been taught and I have taught others that there is a discipline to prayer…which is true, but is has to have passion. Prayer is not simply ‘sitting at the feet of Jesus’ – but it is passionately seeking that experience and basking in it when you find it. Prayer is not some 3,4,5 step formula, although that may help. It is more like a reckless abandonment from the routines and expectations that smother us. The song writer says: Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer that calls me from a world of care – and bids me at the Father’s throne – Make all my wants and wishes known.

Some of you might remember when you ‘fell in love’ with someone and you couldn’t wait to be with them. You talked and talked about anything and everything…even “sweet nothings” and the like. Although it was good to talk and listen…it was so good just to be with the ‘one’. I suppose that is what drew Mary to the feet of Jesus…and why the songs – “Sitting at the feet of Jesus” and “Find Me At The Feet of Jesus” resonate with us. The disciplines are important, the formulas are helpful, the books instruct, the testimonies inspire…but unless they ignite the “passion” we may miss the Presence…and that, I believe, is what sustains our prayer life. The Psalmist said that the Presence of God was what his ‘soul’ longed for…there was thirst and hunger and yearning within his physical body. Jesus said that His presence would be like a well within us, constantly refreshing. Passion in prayer brings the Presence.

Something to ponder…Be blessed!
