A Church with a Heart for our Community

May 17th Tuesday

Greetings in the name of the One who makes all things possible, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Another one of “those” days…no bright sunshine to warm things up and no bright blue skies to encourage us – yet, this is the day that God made for us! So let us enjoy and thank Him for it! I trust that you had a grand weekend and Monday…with many God-incidences that you are remembering! Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release an extra measure of health and courage upon you!

Last night was our Bible study and I had prepared diligently…only to arrive at the church having left my study book with notes at home and no time to go back. So, because the theme of the study was … “Trusting God and not worrying” … I decided the “wing-it” and not worry. Now that sounds good in theory but in practicality … it is not an easy thing to do and I knew that there were some things I had forgotten. However all went well and we had a good time — and no ‘worries’. There were two things that I forgot to share last night so I am going to give them to all of you.

One of the discussion questions was: What is the secret of contentment? We had ten good responses as each one shared their own insight. I had wanted to simply quote this verse after everyone shared…remember – a secret of contentment: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change – the courage to change the things I can – and the wisdom to know the difference” – Reinhold Niebuhr. If you had been there, what would you say was your “secret of contentment” ?

Another question that we dealt with was: List some of the consequences of anxiety? Once again there was at least ten different answers. It seems that we knew a lot about anxiety. I had a quote to share that had been left at home, so I am going to put it here: “Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.” – Arthur Somes Roche. Again, if you had been around the table with us…what has been a consequence of anxiety in your life?

Whether we will admit it or not…”worry” is an often ‘uninvited guest’ in our lives and we have tried many treatments but I believe the most effective and the simplest is found in these words: “Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10a  NIV – “So surrender! Stand silent and stop striving (worrying), and you will see that I am God! – Psalm 46:10a  TPT.

Have a great day — be blessed!
