A Church with a Heart for our Community

May 15th Friday

Greetings to you in the wonderful, powerful, and beautiful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour!! What a lovely morning in the Kingdom…right at this moment. I think this is going to be a multi-dimensional day – rain, sun, clouds, rain, sun. and warmer temperatures. Someone asked me why I mention the weather…well, I am a Canadian and every conversation starts with ‘weather’! However, this is the day that the Lord has made-to start a long weekend-and we will rejoice and be glad in it! I trust that you have had a good week thus far and you have many reasons to be grateful. Today I will be praying for you today, asking Father to quiet your heart, speak peace to your spirit, bring healing to your body, and share insights to your mind.

Today is ‘new release Friday” and there are a few new songs that have caught my ear. However the one that really spoke to me is titled – “Hurry up and wait” by Mercy Me. Some of the words in the song are: The faster you slow this down-To the rhythm of right now-The sooner you find your strength…So hurry up and wait-Rest your weary head for a moment-Hurry up and wait-Feel the burden lift off your shoulder. It has an upbeat melody and I don’t think it is will be a congregational song.

Before I found this song I had been pondering about the importance of taking time to be available to God. In the story of Moses there are at least three specific times when he left the routine to explore God’s presence. The most memorable time, of course, when he happened on the burning bush and turned aside to see what that was all about. Moses had to leave the ordinary demands to find the extraordinary God-moment. Later in Exodus we are told that Moses stepped into the cloud of God’s presence.

Further in Exodus we are told that he entered the tent of meeting and found himself in the cloud of God’s presence. Every time Moses entered God’s presence he had to leave the daily routines behind. Later, we read of David who placed the Ark of the Covenant in a tent right is the midst of the people, organised a 24/7 worship team and spent much time in God’s presence while maintaining his leadership role.

I am sensing that we do have to ‘hurry up and wait’ in God’s presence…for it is in that atmosphere – when we seem to think that we should be doing something else that we find our burdens being lifted and our lives sorted out. I believe that is was Martin Luther who said that he had so much to do that he needed to spend three hours in prayer. Now this might sound strange but when we deliberately step into God’s presence…even when we think we don’t have time…He somehow re-arranges time so that we can meet all of our obligations.

Just a little something to think about — have a blessed day!
