A Church with a Heart for our Community

June 30th Tuesday

Greetings in the name of “the Ruler-Shepherd”(Matthew 2:6), Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! What a dreary day – weather-wise at least – to say ‘good-bye’ to the month of June. I trust that your weekend was a good one, in spite of the rain-wind-coolness and that God blessed you in many ways. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release grace, mercy, and peace to you in abundance.

Tomorrow being “Canada Day” and with a federal election coming in the fall – October 19th  being the scheduled date – there was much prayer Monday noon hour in that direction. It was good to be reminded that for 151 years unofficially and 148 years officially, Canada is the “Dominion of Canada” a land under God’s control and by God’s design “from sea to sea” – Psalm 72:8 KJV. Many thanks to Sir Samuel Leonard Tilley, one of the fathers of confederation, who read that verse as part of his morning devotions, while attending confederation meetings in Charlottetown, PEI in September 1864.

It seems that there was a vision for Canada in the hearts of those leaders…a vision that has almost faded amid the striving for personal freedom and self-responsibility – individuation. However, I join with a growing number of Christians to pray for the ‘Dominion of Canada’, understanding the challenges of Scripture…This is what the LORD says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16 NIV … Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 NIV … The LORD is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 NIV.

I think that most people know that the accumulated days of history point towards some sort of end-game…the Bible is very clear about that. Every special date on the calendar…like Canada Day, is a reminder of those realities. So, tomorrow thank God for the Dominion of Canada and the home that it has been and is to so many people. Pray for the federal government at present and for the election that is coming. Give thanks for the men and women who have served and are serving with the Canadian Armed forces. Give thanks for the freedom and security and peace that we enjoy. Give thanks to God who rules from ‘sea to sea’.

Be blessed!
