A Church with a Heart for our Community

June 28th Thursday

Good Morning! and greetings in the name of the one who turned the water into wine and walked across the stormy sea, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a lovely start to our day – God sure knows how to prepare a day for us! I trust that your week is going well and you are happy, healthy, and fulfilled Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release an extra measure of healing and wholeness to you,,,as well as sending you people to share your faith with.

Last night was our last Bible study night and we watched a video about – The Church That Prays Together. It was a very insightful and challenging lesson. It featured a testimony from a Christian pastor who radically responded to the call of the Spirit. Alec Rowlands and his congregation were challenged by a messenger from God who quoted the words of Jesus: “These people honour me only with their words, for their hearts are so very distant from me. They pretend to worship me, but their worship is nothing more than the empty traditions of men.” Matthew 15:8,9  TPT. (Jesus was quoting Isaiah 29:13). After prayer and trying to discern the leading of God, Alec’s church cancelled all midweek meetings and simply set aside one night a week for “prayer” and that is when the story of the church radically changed.

The whole lesson was really great and it was a good summary of what the other five lessons were about. It was one of those moments that you want to replay again and again…perhaps we will do it again in the fall season. The leader of this video Bible study was a pastor from Brooklyn, New York – Jim Cymbala…and his story about the importance and power of prayer through their church in Brooklyn is compelling and affirms his credibility in teaching about – Life Changing Prayer. One of the taglines that Jim used was this: Prayer is the barometer of the church.

This video Bible study has re-affirmed and re-awakened God’s call to my life…and I am wondering this morning where it will lead. I find myself asking the question: where is your heart today…at this moment? Incidentally, Alec Rowlands wrote a book that details the adventure of their church called – The Presence. The church he serves is in Edmonds, Washington and he is founder and president of a spiritual renewal network called, Church Awakening.

Have a wonderful day!
