A Church with a Heart for our Community

June 16th Tuesday

Greetings in the name of “Jesus, Creator” (John 1:3) – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! Wow! another late Spring morning accentuated with warm rain and moments of blue sunny sky…this is the day God that made for us!! I trust that you had a blessed, enjoyable weekend and Monday. I am aware that, for some of you, life came at you doing 100 miles per hour while you were in the ‘slow-moving vehicle’ lane … so I will be praying for you today, asking Father to make himself known to you in ways that you can understand.

This morning I am drawn to a sentence in a verse of Scripture: “…don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.”  2 Kings 4:16  NLT. The comment is but part of an amazing story in 2 Kings 4:1-37, yet significant on its own. I am aware that there are times when that is my response to the promises of God and words of prophecy spoken over me. I suppose that too many times I have been so disappointed and discouraged when it seemed like the hope given to me had ‘expired’. In fact, at this moment there is a vision and a prophecy that I have carried for several years that seems unlikely to be realized.

I have a sense that there are those that you, and I, know who are living with ‘expired hope’ and it is having a profound impact on them. I read these words: Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life (a shot of energy). Proverbs 13:12 NLT. There are those who are, I believe, living with regret towards God because “hope has been deferred” and it has brought a ‘sickness’ into their lives that needs to be healed.  Recently my wife and I had been discussing the difference between being ‘healed’ and being ‘cured’, there’s something to ponder, and we are gaining some insight for ourselves.

The best response to these ponderings is, at least to me: So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil (he is the one who is constantly lying to us), and he will flee from you. Come close to God (he is always speaking truth to us), and God will come close to you. James 4:7,8a NLT.

Be blessed!
