A Church with a Heart for our Community

July 8th Wednesday

Greetings in the name of “Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14) ‘God with us’ in Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! What a beautiful morning after yesterday’s rain and wind. I haven’t been around much lately, so I trust that all is well in your world and that you are enjoying a new month. This morning, I believe God would say to us – ” Open your ears and prepare to move forward – listen for the ‘sound’ from heaven that will bring direction and empowerment and liberty to your lives!” Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release the aroma of the Holy Spirit’s presence into your daily routine.

I have been challenged by two verses of Scripture, a newspaper article, and a few lines in a book that I am re-reading. First, let me give you the two verses: “Now this is the sin of your sister Sodom. She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned;they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen…” Ezekiel 16:49-50  NIV. Interesting, the outward display of sins in Sodom were preceded by…”arrogance, overfeeding, and apathy…and indifference to the needs of others” …on the inside.

Second, the article in the London Free Press by Larry Cornies, concerning food waste. The writer states that 31 billion dollars of food waste happens each year in Canada…$1500 per household. How often have you said or heard, as you looked at the leftovers on your table: “…that could feed a family of 4, 6 , 8 in some corner of the world”… It is sad to think that we know we have too much but don’t care enough on a consistent basis to really do something about it.

Third, from the book: “In every age, the church faces the danger of degrading itself from a movement to a place, from a conduit of God’s mighty, rushing wind to a sacred place where we seek serene, spiritual moments; from a rescue station to a spiritual country club…the Spirit is a mighty, rushing wind, however, and those filled with the Spirit move.” J.D. Greear, “Jesus, Continued…”.

Something to ponder…  Be blessed !
