A Church with a Heart for our Community

July 7th Thursday

Greetings in the name of the ‘Prince of Peace’, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Another warm day coming our way – “This is the day that the Lord has made!” … have you noticed that some days you have to keep reminding yourself of that truth? In fact, have you some words of Scripture…a verse or two, a thought from a passage, or His word in a song/chorus that you whisper or sing or hum to yourself at regular intervals? I will be praying for you today, asking Father to speak to you throughout this day in a way that you can understand and respond to.

My go to verse…well, one of many – but in the top 10 is this: “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” Isaiah 55:8 NLT. After years of trying to figure out God and watching others do the same I have come to the simple conclusion: God will not act or speak or intervene in the way I, or we, think He will, or should. He dwells in and works from – the unexpected, the suddenly. I must confess that to admit this is difficult and I am drawn to the chorus of a song: I’m in his hands, I’m in his hands – Whate’er the future holds – I’m in his hands – The days I cannot see – Have all been planned for me – His way is best, you see – I’m in his hands — Stanley Ditmer.

Yesterday as I was praying for a friend with a particular health challenge, I was seeing in my mind how this was going to work – in fact, God has shown me the end product and I think that I have filled in the rest of the details. However, God reminded me that He would do what needed to be done, when it needed to done, and in a way that would leave no doubt that He was responsible.

I have a sense that there will be someone reading this who has been trying to give God advice. You have a problem, a situation that needs attention…and you know the how-what-when-where — if only God would pay heed to your thoughts and ways. God says to you –  “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts…and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine” – my friend, Rick Warren, has a simple exercise for moments like this…a stress reliever he calls it: repeat this 10 times – “God is God, and I’m not.”

Have a great day – be blessed!
