A Church with a Heart for our Community

July 6th Tuesday

Greetings to you in the wonderful, beautiful, and powerful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! What a lovely and warm morning in the Kingdom…and yes, this is the day that Lord has made for us, let us rejoice and be glad in it! I trust that you had a good weekend and Monday with many blessings and opportunities to “thank God” for who He is in your life. This morning I will be praying for you, asking Father to…”Bless you and bless you a lot, that He would expand your territory, that His hand would be upon you, and that He would keep you from receiving or giving evil.”

I am well aware that we are at the mid-point of this year, 2021, and that God might have some interesting things to say to us as individuals and as members of a church family. I suppose that a good way to describe our situation is that we have been in a “holding pattern” for the past year and a bit…waiting for somewhere to land, for a destination to put in our spiritual GPS. I can appreciate what it must have been like for the Israelites following Moses to the Promised Land…going around in circles.

So, this morning through my devotions God decided to release some “prepare for landing” instructions. He said that it was time to implement Psalm 46:10…and be quiet, give Him my attention… instead of talking and just “listen.” Therefore, I chose to spend the rest of my prayer time simply not speaking my prayer list – and just listen. I know that might seem like “copping-out” but let me say that spending twenty or so minutes in God’s presence without speaking isn’t as easy as you might think. It seems that we think prayer is the sort of communication where we do all the talking!

Perhaps the reason we don’t spend as much time listening to and for God is because of all the distractions that come our way or maybe because He isn’t speaking clearly or as quickly as we think He should or maybe it is because He is saying things we do not want to hear. Since I was wondering…just a little…when I was going to get my turn to speak – He reminded me of a simple prayer – “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.” The Jesus prayer, as it is referred to, is a repetitive prayer and a thoughtful prayer and a breathe prayer that can empty your heart-mind-soul of one’s burdens and concerns.

I believe that as we prepare for the last half of this year…the first thing that God would have us do is to lighten our load…release some of the frustrations and anxiety and disappointments and “life-stuff” that we have been carrying. I suppose it is somewhat like getting luggage ready at the airport…you cannot exceed the weight allowance. I wonder if God were to do a “luggage check” on our lives…what would He find?

Something to ponder…be blessed!
