A Church with a Heart for our Community

July 5th Thursday

Good Morning to you and greetings in the name of the One who is the ‘Author and Finisher of our faith’, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour!   Wow! another warm day is coming our way with forecasts of unsettled weather conditions, so I guess God wants to surprise us. I will be praying for you today, asking Father to surround you with health, strength, and a happy heart!

This morning my mind is drawn to a verse of scripture: Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. – Genesis 3:8 NIV or   When they heard the sound of GOD strolling in the garden in the evening breeze… – Genesis 3:8a  The Message. The idea of God ‘strolling’ or at least sounding like He was ‘strolling’ is interesting. I looked for other reference and found that God promised to ‘stroll through our city streets’  -Leviticus 26:12 Message and that God would ‘stroll through our camps’  Deuteronomy 23:14  Message.

Imagine that the LORD God wants to make His presence known to us by ‘strolling’ through our lives – in our city – and in our neighbourhood. The scripture says that it is not a visual image that we notice but it is a ‘sound’ that captures our attention. I am further intrigued by the idea that it is in the ‘cool of the day’ or ‘when the evening breeze is blowing’ – I guess God chooses times when we need to be refreshed. This makes me think of Jesus telling Nicodemus, who came to Jesus in the cool of the day, that the ‘wind blows where it wills’, that is the Holy Spirit who makes he presence of Jesus real to us cannot be figured out.

I, also, thought of the Day of Pentecost when the  breeze of the Holy Spirit made such a sound that it grabbed the attention of the citizens of Jerusalem. Is that what it means for God to take a ‘stroll through a city’s streets’? I have been thinking about songs that talk about strolling or walking with God and about the sound of His presence…there are many. As of late there have been many prophetic words and lyrics to songs that are focused on the sounds of heaven – ‘heaven is roaring!’. I wonder to myself – why is God making so much noise? and I remember an old saying…I think it was originally about husband-wife communications –  “I am not hard of hearing, I am ignoring you!” Could it be that we have been ignoring God and He is trying to get our attention?

Listen carefully today – that sound like the wind, might just be God trying to get your attention! Have a blessed day!
