A Church with a Heart for our Community

July 11th Thursday

Greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Wow! another warm, hazy summer’s day – and God is in control! Why not give him a ‘shout’ – “Praise-Honour-Glory-Power-Majesty-to the King of kings and Lord of lords!!”  I will be praying for you today, asking Father to release healing to your body, peace to your spirit, orderliness to your mind, passion to your actions, wisdom to your decisions, and positivity to your thinking!

Yesterday was an interesting day. I was requested to do a funeral for a woman that was very much part of our lives for a time. We lost regular contact with her some sixteen years ago. So my wife and I travelled to a nearby community…and back to a point in our lives that really shaped us for ministry in the presence. There was a rather large gathering of family and friends–although we only know four or five of them.

Every funeral is unique and has its own ‘flavour’ based on the circumstances and the state of family relationships and the freshness of their faith. I had a sense that this was going to be a challenging service. As we were waiting with the staff of the funeral home, I was told something that I had never been told before, especially by a woman I didn’t even know. She grabbed my hand and said: “You have a great opportunity this morning with these people.” Then, my sweet wife affirmed this message and assured me of her prayer support. I suppose that being told this made me a little more mindful.

I have been thinking about that little event and wondered what a difference it would make in our daily routine with family and friends and the people we interact with if someone took our hand a simply said — “You’ve got a great opportunity, or two, today to touch someone’s life” and then someone told us that we were being prayed for in regards to that. The fact is that every day we have great opportunities to interact with people and to touch their lives…and my we respond to that thought. Interestingly enough, according to God’s Word – there is someone who is praying for us, Imagine, Father God turns to his right and bends his ear to hear Jesus, the Risen Lord, speaking our name as He prays for us. I don’t know about you– but that is motivating.

Just a little thought to ponder – have a blessed day!
