A Church with a Heart for our Community

February 17th Tuesday

Greetings in the name of our “Stronghold” (Psalm 18:2) and in Jesus Christ – THE Crucified and Risen Saviour! What a beautiful winter morning in the Kingdom! I trust that you had a great “Family Day” weekend and that “you and yours” were warm, safe, and healthy. Let me assure you that many prayers were offered up for “families’ – especially at our Monday prayer time. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to reveal to you his amazing grace and wonderful mercy.

This morning I have been reading the news headlines and the words of an old Sunday School chorus came to mind: The B-I-B-L-E, that’s the book for me – I stand alone on the Word Of God – the B-I-B-L-E – which, of course led to another chorus: I believe in the word of God – I believe in the word of God – Every promise is true – I believe it, do you? – I believe in the word of God – which led to another: Every promise in the Book is mine – Every chapter, every verse, every line – All the blessings of His love divine – Every promise in the book is mine – which of course…I guess I had better focus.

I believe that God was trying to remind me that in spite of what is going on in the world around me…and even in my own world, that He is God – large and in charge. Billy Graham says that the [phrase “Thus saith the Lord” appears over 2000 times in the Bible. I am encouraged that word is :saith” and not “said” – for that means that the power of the Word of God is always in the ‘present’ – powerful and active and sure.

To a world that has drifted from the Bible and the truths contained therein, we need to grab hold of the prophetic declaration of Jesus: Heaven and earth may pass away, but my words will never pass away – Matthew 24:35 NIV and that reference is found in Luke 21:33 and Mark 13:31…and in 16 other verses God’s word is declared as everlasting. If you think about what has taken place in your lifetime: World Wars and international conflict, the delivery of information from weeks to seconds, the shrinking world because of travel times, the advancement of knowledge…in some ways – “heaven and earth has passed away” but the Bible – God’s word still speaks, and it does so powerfully. The greatest truth that I know for sure, and I borrow from a brilliant theologian – Karl Barth, who was asked to summarize his life’s work: Jesus loves me, this I know – For the Bible tells me so!

Be blessed!
