A Church with a Heart for our Community

February 14th Friday

Happy Valentine’s Day! and greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour … who manifested the Father’s love toward us! What a beautiful winter’s morning – bright sunshine, crispy snow, real ‘cool’ temperatures, and a winter blue sky. Okay – all together now, let us give a shout of praise to God and say “Thank You!”…do it again! I trust that you have had a good week and can remember two or three special blessings that you can share. I pray that you are eager to get together with the church family so that you can experience power-releasing worship! I will be praying for you today, asking Father to respond to the prayer requests that you have brought before Him so that you may see His hand of mercy and grace.

This morning as I did my devotional readings there were three separate references to how important it is to have people in our lives. Add to that God reminded me of the verse of Scripture I sent out in our prayer email. First, the three references were all about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane and how he asked his inner circle to keep him company as he prayed…He wanted their company, their closeness in a dark moment. Of course, you know they went to sleep and  left him alone. He was understanding, but disappointed.

And we need people, not a crowd, but some who are close and give support and understanding…especially in the dark moments. Jesus did not expect them to be able to change his destiny but, I think, he wanted their presence. Truth be told, in our dark moments we don’t expect someone to ‘do anything’ – we just want their presence, someone to listen-to care. Unfortunately the disciples fell asleep-zoned out-were unaware. How often has someone done that for us…or how often have we done that to someone?

Yesterday, I shared a verse from Psalm 106 that was a prayer – “Gather us from exile and unite us together”  v47. Too many times our dark moments have felt like exile and isolation…and sometimes we have done that to ourselves – self-imposed exile when we have allowed the darkness to overcome us. The Psalmist knew and we know as well that we need to be in fellowship with people, we need to united the family of God. We need to be very aware that it is our enemy who wants us to be in ‘exile’ – in isolation. He delights in seeing one of God’s family hovering on their own…vulnerable.

So, dear one, if you feeling a little isolated right now, if you are thinking that no one understands or cares  – that they have all gone to sleep on the job – take action and go back the flock and wake them up – “watch and pray” says Jesus, “watch and pray!”

Something to ponder about today – enjoy your weekend, be blessed, be a blessing!
