A Church with a Heart for our Community

December 8th Thursday

Greetings to you in the name of the One who is always in the present moment…the ‘I am’, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Well! snow is falling – ‘neigeing’ – on us this morning, maybe winter is coming…but this is still the day that the Lord has made and our challenge is to rejoice and be glad in it! Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to watch over your comings and goings today with a protective hand upon you.

This morning’s music selection at home was by a more modern sounding group that I have come to appreciate. The group, Kutless, can be a challenge to listen to at times but the lyrics are often challenging. They have a very good Christmas album that has a song called, ‘This Is Christmas’ on it and I so enjoy the words that were written, I believe to address the political correctness surrounding Christmas. For the most part the song uses questions to progress to a simple declaration.

I won’t give you all the words, but here is a sample: Could there be something you forgot? … Have we lost the reason that we celebrate each year? … What is Christmas? If there never was a Savior wrapped in a manger, what is Christmas? …If the angels never sang ‘Glory to the new born king? What is Christmas without Christ? … There’d be no gloria in excelsis deo, what is Christmas without Christ? …  This is Christmas, it’s all about the Savior wrapped in a manger, This is Christmas, Because of Jesus Christ!

I thought of all the definitions of Christmas – it is a season of giving…Merry Givingmas ; it is love…Merry Lovemas ; it is peace and goodwill … Merry Peace and goodwill mass – that sounds very awkward. As you know, God’s answer to the world’s need was – “For a child has been born–for us! the gift of a son–for us! He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be:Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness.  Isaiah 9:6  The Message. We call the child – Jesus Christ…after all that is what his parents told the innkeeper and the shepherds and the wiseman and Simeon and Anna and anyone who asked…’what’s his name?’ – ‘Jesus, just call him Jesus!’

Something to think about – have a great day and be blessed!
