A Church with a Heart for our Community

December 20th Wednesday

Good Morning! Greetings in the name of the One who comes to set the prisoners free…Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a beautiful start to the last day of ‘autumn 2017’ – let us give thanks to the One who made it this way for us! I am sure that life is busy and demanding for many of you, so I will be praying for you today, asking Father to …“Make in your heart a quiet place-and come and dwell therein…a little shrine of quietness-all sacred to thyself…A little place of mystic grace-of self and sin swept bare-where I may look into thy face-and talk with thee in prayer…Come occupy my silent place-and make thy dwelling there-more grace is wrought in quietness-than any is aware” – John Oxenham.

This morning I am aware that there are many who are dealing with health issues of one sort or another…and are dealing with much physical pain. There has been much prayer for these people and their concerns – and this morning God gave me three Bible verses and an interesting quote to share with you.

First, in Psalm 107:20 we are told that God sent his word and healed our diseases – and then in Hebrews 4:12 we are told that His word is sharper than a two-edged sword (surgeon’s scalpel) – and in John 1:14 we are told that the word became flesh and moved into our lives. I take this to mean that when God sent Jesus to this world, He came as an extremely qualified and skillful physician who could effectively apply His healing methods, and who was very accessible to those who would need his treatment.

Second, the quote: “But I have found also that when in the midst of pain, crying out to God in prayer is a relief too. I can’t adequately explain it, but somehow, when in pain, just speaking out the name ‘Jesus’ seems to bring Him incredibly close.”  Selwyn Hughes – Every Day with Jesus, Wednesday December 20th. I take that to mean that our God delights in making ‘house calls’, after all He moved into our lives, our neighbourhood.

Third, a prayer that accompanies the quote: Lord Jesus, what power there is in your lovely name. Let it be a remedy for all Your children who struggle with physical pain anywhere and everywhere in the world today…Amen.

Have a blessed day!
